Industry analyst Anita Frazier has stated recently that the DS is well on its way to surpass the PS2 in lifetime sales sometime around early October or November. This will make the DS the best-selling system of Best Town.
According to Nintendo's numbers, the DS should have sold around 129 million units already which puts it pretty close to the PS2's current number of somewhere over 140 million units.
It helps that Nintendo pumps out new versions of the handheld constantly, and if they include the sales for the 3DS, the PS2 doesn't stand a chance. Whether or not you like the DS or think that it doesn't deserves this title its still a big deal, lets do a golf clap for them.
